| Redeemer through
the years...
Redeemer Lutheran Church of Fridley, Minnesota originated
in 1911 through an incorporated Ladies Aid society with 25 members.
Their call: to raise $1,000 for the church building. They realized
their dream by organizing church suppers, quilting bees and raffles.
C.A. Nelson of Cloverleaf Farms donated the land and the members
built the church (now our Chapel) themselves.
Redeemer was dedicated on June 15, 1916 when the congregation
was organized with 74 members and 42 children. Redeemer and Our
Savior's Lutheran Church of Ham Lake (now Soderville, Minnesota)
were a two-point parish until September 13, 1942 when the parish
was divided. These early members answered the call of Christ and
because of their legacy, a foundation was laid..a foundation upon
which Redeemer has continued to build.
The next expansion was a basement annex built in 1952 with the
intent of building a sanctuary upon it. Those plans were bypassed
when the members realized that the sanctuary would be too small
for the growing congregation.
The present sanctuary was built in 1958, and the first worship
service was held on Easter Sunday, April 17, 1960. Four years later
the Sunday School building and offices were erected followed by
the Activity Center and new kitchen in 1985.
The facility was made handicapped accessible in 1987 with special
parking, a ramp and an elevator.
The most recent addition is 13,000 square feet housing new offices,
meeting/Sunday School rooms along with a commons area for coffee
and visiting after Services.
This congregation has been served by 16 pastors and associate pastors
through the years. Because the early members heard and responded
to God's call, Redeemer is blessed today with a community of believers,
a place to worship and grow spiritually and a foundation upon which
to continue God's work.
